Our Adult Learning Lab in southwest Detroit helps adults improve their literacy, math and computer skills so they can earn their GED and be better qualified for employment. The Lab needs tutors to help students with math, English and other subject areas.
Piquette Square provides housing and support services to 150 formerly homeless veterans to help them rebuild their lives and reintegrate into the community. Piquette Square is regarded as national model in the campaign to end veteran homelessness. There are numerous volunteer opportunities at Piquette Square, including helping with fundraising, preparing Welcome Kits for new tenants, working on the community gardens and landscaping, hosting events and meals, tutoring and offering classes, and more. Southwest Solutions, in partnership with other organizations, is the lead agency in many initiatives to beautify and stabilize neighborhoods, particularly in southwest Detroit. Southwest Solutions organizes an annual Neighborhood Beautification Day in June, sponsored by NeighborWorks America, which draws hundreds of volunteers.
