Congratulations to Guadalupe Torres for receiving the 2019 Youth United Spotlight Award for Leadership! Guadalupe is a participant in our Juvenile Justice program. She was nominated for the award by Fatima Eid, one of our program staff.
Guadalupe has shown excellent leadership skills in the program’s class and volunteer activities. Guadalupe is in the program because of truancy issues last school year.
“I have learned a lot about life and responsibilities in the Juvenile Justice program,” said Guadalupe, who is 15. “I will make sure I don’t miss so many school days again. I know that education is very important. I want to have a better future than my parents, who didn’t finish high school. My goal is to go to culinary school and become a chef one day.”
The Leadership Award recognizes “accomplishments [that] have set an inspiring example.” To accompany the award, Guadalupe also received a Certificate of Special Senatorial Recognition signed by Michigan Senator Gary Peters.
