Talent show to help feed the homeless and mental health consumers

May 6th, 2010
Monique Crawley says that performing in the talent show is an opportunity to "rediscover one of the best parts of myself." She used to perform a lot as a singer when she was girl, but gave up on her art as her mental illness grew more severe. Monique will be performing a song by Jill Scott called "Love Rain"

On Friday night (May 7) this week, Go-Getters Drop-in Center will hold its second annual talent show. Go-Getters serves those recovering from mental illness, including those who are homeless. All of those performing at the show are Go-Getters consumers. The show is a benefit, and the proceeds will be used to provide hot, nutritious food to the 50 individuals who have lunch at Go-Getters four days a week.

The talent show will feature music, poetry, skits, and dance. Dinner will be served. The event begins at 7 PM. Doors will open at 6:30 PM. Tickets are $10 a person or $25 per family. Go-Getters is located at 2640 W. Vernor Highway in southwest Detroit (48216). Free and secure parking is provided.
