Southwest Solutions participated in the launch of Jet Blue’s Soar with Reading program. The company will give away 100,000 free children’s books in Detroit throughout the summer via special book vending machines strategically placed across the city. Veterans living at Piquette Square helped package the books and families from Say & Play with Words enjoyed the kick-off event.
In addition to selecting new books from the vending machine, kids met actress, Victoria Justice, and Detroit Tigers’ Justin Upton.
“We are truly grateful to JetBlue / Soar with Reading for bringing this event to our families. One of the most rewarding things to our parents was seeing how happy their children were when getting their book out of the vending machine, in addition to the different activities they had. Their investment in our families and community will make a huge difference in so many lives. On child at a time, one community at a time will be sure to create a ripple effect in the long run for a brighter future.” said Esmeralda Torres, Parent Facilitator at Southwest Solutions.
Parents and kids are encouraged to visit the book vending machine to build their home library. Books are free and you can take as many books as you want. Learn more at http://www.soarwithreading.com/book-vending-machines
