Just in time for tax season, Shamika Baskin opened the doors of Baskin Tax Service & Insurance Group to the public. After years of operating her business out of her home, Shamika now has a storefront in southwest Detroit that will help grow her business and reach new customers.
During Shamika’s search for commercial space, she considered buying a building but every property she saw needed too much work or cost too much money. It wasn’t until she discovered Southwest Solutions that she considered leasing space in southwest Detroit.
“I grew up in Detroit but I didn’t go to southwest unless it was for Mexican food,” Shamika says. “I wasn’t familiar with the area, but as I drove through the neighborhood and saw this place, I knew it was mine.”
After months of struggling to find a place to establish her business, Shamika was pleased to discover the process for obtaining the lease was seamless.
“Southwest Solutions was attentive to my needs and resolved any issue I had with the space,” Shamika says. “They’ve given me the freedom to create an environment I’m comfortable with.”
Southwest Solutions’ Director of Business Development Dan Pederson is excited to have Shamika join the other community-minded businesses and organizations in the Vernor/Lawndale neighborhood. Southwest Solutions has developed more than 15,000 square feet of commercial space in that area, occupied by a range of businesses and organizations including the Detroit Public Library, the Harris Tutoring Center, Congress of Communities, and Southwest Housing Property Management.
“We want to introduce businesses and organizations to the neighborhood that provide a variety of services to residents.” Dan says. “Baskin Tax Service & Insurance Group is a great addition to the community.”
Individuals have until Tuesday, April 18, 2017 to file their 2016 tax returns. Baskin Tax Service & Insurance Group is located at 8748 W. Vernor Hwy, Detroit, MI 48209 and is open Monday through Friday from 9:30am to 6:30pm and Saturday from 10:00am to 6:00pm. Walk-ins are welcome.
