Our free sewing class for beginners is offered in English and Spanish. The English-speaking cohort has completed its third session, and participants are making excellent progress toward ambitious goals. “By the time course ends, the students will be able to make a skirt and a pair of pants that they would be proud to wear,” said Rowena Palackdharry, who teaches the English-cohort course. “They will be able to operate a sewing machine, cut and follow patterns, install zippers, do basic alterations, and more. These are valuable skills for families trying to save money.” Rowena is an expert seamstress, tailor, and designer. The sewing course in southwest Detroit meets once a week for eight weeks. The next English and Spanish cohorts will be begin in late September.
