The 550 students at Bennett Elementary in southwest Detroit participated in the school’s second annual Multicultural Festival on June 8.
The event was organized by Kaity Nicastri, our Community Schools Site Coordinator at Bennett.
“This is really an exciting day of collaboration between students, teachers, and staff to learn about cultures different from our own or about the cultures of students and staff in the school,” said Kaity. “Students and teachers spent the weeks leading up to the event learning about various facts about their countries, collecting or making artifacts, planning costumes and displays. The results really shine, and our little “world travelers” feel thrilled to get each stamp in their passport.” The Detroit Children’s Museum contributed artifacts to the various cultural displays throughout the school.
