Acclaimed Detroit musician and storyteller Reverend Robert Jones performed for students studying for their GED at our Adult Learning Lab on Tuesday evening. “There are lots of ways to learn about history, social studies and societal change, but one of the most impactful ways is music,” Robert told the students. Robert illustrated this point by highlighting African American history — slavery, the Great Awakening, the Underground Railroad, the Civil War, and Emancipation — through song. Accompanying his vocals, Robert played the guitar, banjo and fiddle. He also performed songs by Woody Guthrie about the labor movement.
