Congratulations to the ten youth who are the first graduating class of our My Next Move program.
My Next Move teaches about career development, job readiness, life and leadership skills, and financial literacy. It also provides tutoring in math, reading and GED preparation.
My Next Move serves youth 15-21 years old who live in southwest Detroit. It meets three evenings a week for six months, and participants receive a stipend.
My Next Move graduate Carina Muñoz spoke at the graduation event and described how My Next Move helped her to set goals that she will now work toward, including going to college. Carina also talked about her personal struggles. She was diagnosed with cancer as a child, and she lost much of her vision during the radiation treatments. The cancer remains in remission. As she plans for the future, her career aspiration is to help immigrants.
My Next Move is a collaboration between Southwest Counseling Solutions and Southwest Economic Solutions. It is sponsored by Bridgeway Services.
