Meet candidates for green jobs

Written by Rebecca Salminen Witt

On Friday, Detroit GreenWorks Solutions, a partnership of Southwest Solutions, the Greening of Detroit, WARM Training Center, Henry Ford Community College and Urban Farming, will spotlight their green jobs training programs at an event from 12 to 4 at the Mexicantown Mercado.

Detroit GreenWorks Solutions is currently training southwest Detroit residents in weatherization, energy auditing, deconstruction, forestry, landscaping and urban agriculture. The first candidates will be certified within weeks and ready for work. These are well-qualified, professional applicants, with great enthusiasm for the green industries.

If you currently have positions available, don’t miss this opportunity to see and hear about the program first hand.

If you are a resident of southwest Detroit and you have an interest in the environment or you’ve been looking for a ticket into the green jobs arena, come and learn about the training programs.

The Mexicantown Mercado is at 2826 Bagley Street, Detroit Michigan, 48216. The event will begin at noon with a demonstration tree planting, followed by a short program highlighted by comments from trainees currently enrolled in the program. Refreshments will be available after the program, along with the opportunity to visit with each of the program partners to learn more about the specifics of the training that they offer. From 2 to 4, training candidates are welcome to come and begin the process of being certified for entry into the program.

This is an opportunity for anyone interested in green jobs. Don’t miss the chance to see Detroit’s future at work!
