Learn about good-paying Census work in your spare time

January 21st, 2020

Southwest Solutions is partnering with the Census Bureau to help the effort to get everyone counted in our community. Federal dollars that come to our community are affected by Census results, so it’s very important to get a complete count.

Temporary jobs for the 2020 Census are an opportunity to earn money while helping the community. The Census jobs in Wayne County pay $21.50 to $24.50 an hour, and offer weekly paychecks, flexible hours, and paid training

To apply, you fill out an online job application that allows you to be considered for several positions, including census taker, recruiting assistant, office clerk, and supervisory staff. A link to the application is at 2020Census.gov/jobs.

People who already employed and want to earn extra income evenings and weekends are encouraged to apply for the census taker jobs. There is a great need for bilingual census takers.

If you’re interested and want to learn more, a Census representative will be providing information about Census jobs at our Adult Learning Lab at these times:

  • January 21 (Tuesday) at 1 PM
  • January 22 (Wednesday) at 6:30 PM
  • January 23 (Thursday) at 3 PM
  • January 27 (Monday) at 12:30 PM
  • January 30 (Thursday) at 10 AM

Our Learning Lab is located across from Clark Park at 4214 Vernor. You can use the computers at the Lab to fill out the job application.

To be eligible for a Census job, you must be at least 18 years old, have a valid Social Security number, and be a U.S. citizen. The selection process begins this month, with paid training occurring in March and April. After training, most positions work between May and early July.
