On behalf of the two families who received Christmas gifts from Invest Detroit this holiday season, we thank Invest Detroit for its generosity and compassion.

Invest Detroit provided gifts to the family of Lakenya Welch and the family of Elaine Taylor. The families are served by our wraparound and mental health counseling programs. Dewand Guyton is the Wraparound Facilitator for both. Both Lakenya and Elaine have adopted children who have suffered greatly and they have shown extraordinary strength and commitment to provide these children a better future. After her mother died of cancer this year, Lakenya assumed guardianship for two young girls whom her mother had adopted. In the last 20 years, Elaine has adopted 10 kids and fostered nearly 45.

This is the second consecutive year that Invest Detroit has provided Christmas gifts to families in need that we serve. This Invest Detroit charitable initiative is lead by Shannon Ferrini, Executive Assistant at the mission-driven nonprofit focussed on strengthening neighborhoods, job opportunities, and more. For more than 10 years, Shannon has asked Southwest Solutions to recommend families that her company could support with gifts at Christmas time.
