A free Homebuyer Education workshop offered by Southwest Solutions drew about 20 prospective homebuyers for the six-hour class today. The workshop was held at the WSU/Harris Literacy Program in southwest Detroit. At the workshop, participants learned about assessing their homeownership readiness, picking the right mortgage, applying for a mortgage, managing the loan application process, and more. The class is a requirement for most down payment assistance programs, including MSHDA programs, which help make homeownership affordable for low and moderate income families. At the end of the workshop, participants received a Certificate of Completion that is valid for a year to qualify for down payment assistance programs.
