DETROIT, December 16, 2008 — Affordable housing in a beautifully restored historic building, featuring state-of-the-art construction and conveniently located in southwest Detroit.
This is what renters can expect at the Grand Apartments at 545 W. Grand Blvd. Southwest Housing Solutions (SWHS) developed the $2.5 million rehabilitation project.
The building is just north of Vernor Avenue. It contains 14 apartment units with one, two or three bedrooms that rent for $375 to $700 per month. Each apartment is completely renovated and features new appliances, energy-efficient windows and insulation, central air and heat, optional gated parking, and many other amenities.
“We are committed to providing affordable housing that is high quality and which enhances the quality of life of our tenants and the neighborhood,” said Tim Thorland, executive director of SWHS. “In our restoration of the Grand Apartments, we harmonized a deep respect for historical preservation with advanced construction practices and materials.”
SWHS will also manage the property and, in keeping with its community-based philosophy, will implement management practices that encourage cooperation. Tenants will have access to support services designed to help them improve their lives. They will also have the opportunity to participate in an advisory council that enables tenants to have a direct voice in making the building a better place.
The Grand Apartments are close to the Vernor business district, Mexicantown, Holy Redeemer, Clark Park, and many other attractions that mark the vibrancy and diversity of the area. Those interested in renting a unit at the Grand Apartments can obtain an application online at www.swsol.org or in person at SWHS at 1920 25th St., Detroit, 48216. The phone number is 313.297.1311.
