Earn + Learn graduates got together with employers and our Earn + Learn staff at a networking dinner event at the Ford Resource and Engagement Center (FREC) on June 15.
The event was an opportunity for the graduates to celebrate their accomplishments and plan and make connections to further their career aspirations.
Andrew Seegars, 22, graduated from Earn + Learn two years ago. He then worked at the Detroit Zoo, Joe Louis Arena, and Quicken Loans, where he is currently employed. Andrew plans to start school in the fall and wants to get a degree in environmental science. His career goal is to become a park ranger. “Earn + Learn taught me to keep pushing forward even if things don’t go my way, which they hadn’t before in life,” said Andrew. “But I’m confident now that things are moving in a good direction.”
Brandon Gray, 18, enrolled in the Earn + Learn truck driving training course. He is now driving an 18-wheeler and earning more than $800 a week.
“Earn + Learn changed my life,” Brandon said. “It motivated me to take responsibility and get a career to make a good living.”
Earn + Learn is an innovative and comprehensive model of workforce development that helps individuals in the Detroit area participate in training opportunities and gain long-term employment
