Cooking class teaches healthy, affordable meals

Mariela Cruz Rodriguez teaching the healthy cooking class. The free 6-week class meets in the gallery/community space at our Whitdel building at 1250 Hubbard.

Through a partnership with Cooking Matters and Gleaners Community Food Bank, we are offering a free cooking class in southwest Detroit to help community members prepare healthy, delicious and affordable meals.

The class meets once a week for six weeks. There are 18 participants in the current session, which is being taught in Spanish. After each class, the participants are given a bag of ingredients so they can prepare the recipes they just learned for their families. Then, at the next class, they discuss how well they were able to make the meal at home and if their families enjoyed it.

If you would like to participate in future cooking classes, contact Mayte at via email or 313-297-1341. Please indicate if you would like to take the English or Spanish-speaking session.
