About 25 staff members and alumni of Southwest Solutions participated in the tenth annual Cookie Swap, held during the holiday season.
The founder and lead organizer of the event is Graciela Villalobos, director of our Adult Counseling Services. Graciela is a passionate baker, and like the confections she makes, she created the event to mix together many different ingredients into a sweet and festive experience.
“It’s a small event for our large family at Southwest Solutions, but it’s a meaningful one and adds to our sense of camaraderie,” says Graciela. “I think it gets better each year.”
“Baking is one of my favorite things to do,” Graciela continues. “You know, in our business of mental health counseling you do not get results immediately. But with baking, you do. And so, it is a good way to relax. Also, food is the best way to bring people together.”
The Cookie Swap is a friendly competition, and the winners are determined by votes cast by the participants.
The winners this year were:
Best display: Phyllis Corder Gilliam
Best tasting cookie: Barbara Gray
Best decorated cookie: Michael Teixeira
Grand Champion: Graciela Villalobos
