GKN, a global engineering company, sponsored a neighborhood board-up and cultural celebration at Priest Elementary-Middle School in southwest Detroit. Volunteers from the company, neighborhood residents and AmeriCorps VISTAS from SER Metro and Wayne State University worked together to board nearly 50 abandoned homes.
This project builds on ongoing efforts to strengthen the community by improving the surrounding area and creating safe walking routes for students and their families.
Following the neighborhood beautification, GKN hosted a cultural celebration for residents and students’ families, featuring food, live music and games to promote community pride, diversity & inclusion.
