DETROIT – Southwest Detroit will be alive with the sights, sounds and smells of the holiday season at the third annual “Southwest Holiday Fest” on Saturday, December 12 from 3 p.m. until 9 p.m. The fun takes place in the heart of Mexicantown along Bagley and West Vernor, between 16th and 24th Streets.

The holiday festival features vendors selling food and gifts, live entertainment, children’s activities, a portrait artist, holiday recipes and cookbooks, arts and crafts, Christmas trees and wreaths, hot chocolate, and coffee. Local guitarist Steve Jarosz will be part of a trio performing musical selections from around the world.

Several organizations and businesses are participating in the festival, which is presented by an alliance of Southwest Detroit residents, organizations, businesses, resource providers, and non-profit agencies including the Vista Partnership.

“The Vista Partnership is focused on revitalizing a 20-block area and our annual holiday celebration shines a spotlight on the arts and culture of our diverse community,” said Dan Pederson, director of the Vista Partnership.  “The festival brings together residents and visitors for an evening of fun, and it gives them the opportunity to check out the many businesses and restaurants in the area.”

“The arts are a vital part of any community and we have a great entertainment lineup consisting of live theatre, music and dance,” said Southwest Housing Solutions board member Kate Brennan  and marketing consultant for Matrix Theatre Company. “We’re excited about how the festival has grown in just three years and look forward to displaying the immense creativity in southwest Detroit.”
