Partnership for Youth

Partnership for Youth (PFY) is a collaborative of youth serving agencies who work to significantly strengthen the systems of supports and opportunities that affect youth ages 11-18. The overarching goal of this initiative is to work together with neighborhood agencies and organizations in supporting youth to develop themselves, their leadership, and their ability to exercise control over their environments.

About

Partnership for Youth is grounded in three core values:

  • Youth voice: Young people must have equal voice at the table where decisions about their lives are made
  • Youth engagement: Young people can and should play a significant role in effecting positive chance in their community
  • Collaboration: To ensure healthy youth development in our community, it is essential that youth serving organizations, schools, youth and their families work collaboratively

PFY engages with its 42-member collaborative in many ways. These include:

  • Monthly Meetings (on the 3rd Tuesday of every month) are held at Patton Recreation Center.
  • Program Intensification and Enhancement (PIE) Grant. These grants are offered to PFY partner organizations to enhance quality youth development programs offered in the Chadsey Condon and Southwest Detroit Congress of Communities neighborhoods. The Grant applications are reviewed, scored, and awarded by a youth majority Grant Review Committee. This team is comprised of nine youth and two adults, with facilitation by PFY staff. Grant awards range from $5,000-$10,000. Over the last three years, PFY has re-granted over $200,000 to 20-plus youth serving agencies and organizations in the PFY network.
  • Youth Development Professional Development/Technical Assistance Opportunities. The vision of Partnership for Youth is that all youth have the chance to engage with high quality youth development opportunities in the Chadsey Condon and Southwest Detroit neighborhoods. Partnership for Youth actively supports the professional development of youth workers within our network. With a variety of staff development opportunities, PFY is committed to providing youth serving organizations numerous ways to support the growth of their staff, so they are better equipped to service the youth who attend their programming every day.

Partnership for Youth is a member of the Detroit Youth Development Alliance, a Skillman funded initiative.
