It rained hard before dawn on Neighborhood Beautification Day, but the skies cleared as the sun rose, and about 200 volunteers turned out to beautify eight sites in southwest Detroit.
The event took place on Saturday, June 1 from 8AM to noon. This was the seventh consecutive year for the annual event. Although the volunteer effort is hard work, it is always marked by great camaraderie, good cheer and, ultimately, a satisfying sense of accomplishment.
The work sites this year were:
Matrix Theater / The Precinct / Mercado:
Hubbard Farms Community Garden / Bagley Orchards
Early Head Start center:
People’s (Family Treat) Park
Our Garden Place
Springdale Green Playlot
Pitt-Carson apartment area
