Golightly students celebrate black historical figures

February 28th, 2018
Golightly 4th grade students (left to right) Vion Thomas, Kayshawn Taylor, Conner McIntosh, and McKinley Boyer represented Harriet Tubman, Langston Hughes, Duke Ellington, and Mary McLeod Bethune.

To culminate Black History Month, students at Golightly Education Center in Midtown represented famous black figures to inform their fellow students of the extraordinary accomplishments of these individuals. The students dressed like the figures and created display boards with photos and biographical details. The special event was held in the gym, and every class visited the “living museum.” Southwest Solutions’ Community School Site Coordinator at Golightly, Verea Bibbs, served as the lead organizer of the event.
