The Empty Bowls event to benefit our Go-Getters Drop-in Center drew 150 people and raised $6,000. The event was held at Piquette Square for Veterans last Friday evening (11/12).
Those attending the event paid $25 admission and enjoyed a festive evening of art, good food and great company. They also received one of the ceramic bowls decorated by mental health consumers, veterans at Piquette, and agency staff and supporters.
In addition, a silent auction was held, featuring bowls created by local artists.
Proceeds from the event will help Go-Getters address hunger and homelessness in southwest Detroit. Go-Getters provides a warm and welcoming environment for about 70 homeless or formerly homeless individuals, all of whom are dealing with mental illness. Go-Getters serves a hot, nutritious lunch to about 50 people.
We thank the 12 restaurants that donated food to the event:
El Zocalo Mexican
Genitti’s Hole in the Wall
Honey Bee Market
Milano Bakery & Cafe
Simply Good Kitchen
Slows Bar·B·Q Detroit
Taqueria Mi Pueblo
