It was a festive event to celebrate the joy of learning.
More than 300 parents, caregivers and children attended our Early Learning Communities (ELC) participant recognition ceremony, at which 200 ELC participants received award certificates for completing ELC classes. The event was held at our Larkins ELC On Friday, August 24.
ELCs provide free training and resources to parents and caregivers so that they can prepare children to be “ready to learn” when the children enter school. Southwest Solutions’ family literacy program runs five ELC sites in Detroit.
“We congratulate our Southwest ELC parents and caregivers for their dedication to create a literacy rich, active learning environment for young children,” said Emma Herdean, supervisor of our ELC program. “We celebrate their effort and achievement in completing Level 5 and Level 10 trainings, and their love and support for the children.”
The ELC initiative in metro Detroit is funded by the United Way for Southeastern Michigan and others.
“The award ceremony is such a wonderful day,” said Jessica Rodriguez, coordinator of our ELC program. “Our staff is honored to recognize the enthusiastic commitment of our participants to improve their lives and help their children become more successful in school and in the future.”
