Grand opening of the revitalized Third Precinct

on Friday, September 14!

Excited about the re-imagining of Detroit and its creative, entrepreneurial and green possibilities?

Then you won’t want to miss a fun event on Friday, September 14 to celebrate the grand opening of the revitalized Third Precinct building in southwest Detroit.

The Third Precinct is a remarkable story that has attracted considerable media attention. The once-abandoned police station had been an eyesore in the neighborhood, but has been renovated by Southwest Solutions to become a center for the arts and horticulture.

It is now home to 555 Nonprofit Gallery and Studios and Detroit Farm and Garden (DFG). 555 and DFG continue to transform the space, and the creative energy at the site is palpable.

The ceremony for the grand opening runs 3:30 – 4:15PM, followed by an opportunity to tour the building and enjoy the spaces of 555 and DFG.

This event will kick-off an evening and weekend of other celebratory activities organized by 555 and DFG, including concerts, a new gallery exhibit, classes, and much more. There's food and drink.

A DetroitWorks "Roaming Table" will be present - to provide information and gather feedback.

Karla Henderson, Group Executive of Planning and Facilities at City of Detroit, has cited the Third Precinct project as a model of creative re-purposing that exemplifies what could be done with vacant buildings. Karla will be one of the speakers at the grand opening.

Other speakers include:

The Third Precinct is located on Vernor Avenue between 20th and 21st Streets in southwest Detroit. The grand opening ceremony will take place under a tent in the parking lot, accessed from 21st Street.

Join us to celebrate this exciting and significant development!
